Printmaking, for Eleni Panayidou, is not a method of reproduction but a way of thinking through material.

Rooted in the rich traditions of printmaking, Panayidou's practice explores the expressive and sculptural possibilities of paper. Working across intaglio, embossing and relief processes, she moves fluidly between the printed image and three-dimensional form, investigating how the language of printmaking can evolve while remaining deeply connected to its history and craftsmanship.

Paper lies at the heart of her practice. Drawn to its paradoxical nature, fragile yet resilient, delicate yet capable of preserving the slightest trace of pressure. Panayidou approaches it not as a passive support for an image but as an active material. Through pressure, light and texture, paper becomes both image and object, capable of carrying memory, presence and spatial experience.

Rather than separating traditional printmaking from her sculptural explorations, Panayidou understands them as different expressions of the same visual language. Some works embrace the richness of the printed image, while others reduce it almost entirely, allowing relief, light and the material qualities of paper to become the primary means of expression. Together, these bodies of work investigate the expanding possibilities of printmaking today.

Living and working in Cyprus, Panayidou's sensitivity to landscape, memory and the traces left by time quietly informs her practice. These references are rarely literal. Instead, they are embedded within the material itself, where subtle marks, textures and impressions invite slow observation and contemplation.

Panayidou studied Fine Art (Printmaking) at the University of Brighton and completed an MA in Printmaking at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Cyprus and internationally.

Through an ongoing dialogue between tradition and experimentation, Eleni Panayidou continues to explore printmaking as a living medium one capable of creating new spaces, new forms and new ways of seeing.
